API-Sports is the broadest cheap toolkit on the market. Football (the round kind), basketball, baseball, hockey, MMA, rugby, F1, more — each on a separate $19–39/month plan, with daily free request quotas and a clean REST surface. If your project is "show me every league on Earth in one app," this is a great place to start.

But the breadth that makes API-Sports useful for a global stats site is exactly what makes it shallow for a U.S. betting product. There are no pre-computed +EV or arbitrage endpoints. There are no hit rates per prop line. There is no AI chat endpoint. The bookmaker-side feeds exist but are not the depth of a U.S.-focused betting API.

MoneyLine API takes the opposite bet. We focus on U.S. major sports — NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAAF, NCAAB — and go deep: props with hit rates, +EV, arbitrage, and a grounded AI endpoint, all on one free tier. Different shape, different buyer, but if you are building a U.S. sports betting product, MoneyLine is the right shape.

Round by round

1

Global multi-sport coverage

API-Sports

1,000+ leagues across many sports, each on a clean REST surface. If your project is global-first and includes obscure rugby or F1, this is the right tool.

MoneyLine API

Six U.S. major leagues. We are not pretending to be a global multi-sport feed.

For breadth — leagues per dollar — API-Sports wins. We are deep, not wide, and we will give them the round.

2

Edge data

API-Sports

Bookmaker feeds are present, but +EV and arbitrage are not pre-computed endpoints. You build that math yourself.

MoneyLine API

+EV, value, and arbitrage as first-class endpoints with sane-price guardrails. Sportsbook-only consensus on arb. Exchange allowlist. DFS excluded.

For products that recommend a bet, this is the surface that ships the actual product.

3

Player props and hit rates

API-Sports

Player profiles and season stats are available. Recent-form hit rates per prop line are not first-class.

MoneyLine API

Hit rates pre-computed per (player, market, line) with the right boxscore math, including binary markets like anytime TD or anytime goal.

For U.S. sports betting product UIs, hit rates are usually the differentiator your end users actually feel.

4

AI / LLM endpoint

API-Sports

No AI endpoint.

MoneyLine API

/v1/ai/chat returns a grounded answer plus a UI-renderable presentation. Free-text prompts route via a built-in classifier.

Not a fair fight on this category — only one of them ships an AI surface.

5

Pricing simplicity

API-Sports

Per-sport plans add up fast. If you want NBA + MLB + NFL + NHL, you are stacking four subscriptions.

MoneyLine API

One plan covers every sport in our coverage. Predictable monthly billing on top of a robust free tier that covers personal AND commercial use.

Simpler billing is a real feature when the alternative is invoicing four subscriptions and stitching keys.

API-Sports is the right tool if you are building a global multi-sport stats site or an app that needs that obscure rugby league. For U.S. sports betting, MoneyLine wins on the surfaces that matter most: edges, hit rates, AI, and a single-plan pricing model that does not balloon as you add sports.

Why MoneyLine wins for builders

API-Sports and MoneyLine optimize for different shapes. API-Sports goes wide — many sports, many leagues, low per-sport price. MoneyLine goes deep — fewer sports, but every surface a betting product actually ships on.

If your roadmap is "support every league in the world," API-Sports is the right pick and you should not fight it. If your roadmap is "ship a U.S. sports betting product with edges, props, and AI," MoneyLine is the right pick and you will save a quarter of work on each of those three surfaces.

A common pattern: teams use API-Sports for global non-U.S. data (soccer, F1, rugby) and MoneyLine for U.S. major sports plus the edge / AI stack. Both APIs play well in the same architecture; canonical event IDs in MoneyLine keep the U.S. side clean.

FAQ

+Does API-Sports cover U.S. sports?

Yes — API-Sports has plans for NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAAF, and NCAAB. The pricing is per-sport, so building one product across all four U.S. majors typically means stacking subscriptions. MoneyLine covers all six U.S. leagues on a single plan with a free tier and adds the edge / AI surfaces API-Sports does not include.

+Why does API-Sports not have +EV or arbitrage?

API-Sports is broad-and-shallow by design — it is built to cover many sports with raw data feeds, not to be a U.S. betting-product specialist. +EV and arbitrage detection are scope choices that imply a betting-first product, which is what MoneyLine is. We ship those as first-class endpoints with built-in guardrails.

+Can I use API-Sports and MoneyLine together?

Yes, and many teams do. Use API-Sports for global non-U.S. coverage (soccer leagues outside the U.S., F1, rugby, MMA), and MoneyLine for U.S. majors plus the edge / hit-rate / AI stack. Canonical event IDs on the MoneyLine side keep your U.S. data joinable across odds, props, and edges.
